Abstract: The effect of soils from five different locations of Federal University Oye Ekiti the vegetative and floral characteristics of maize Boys Hostel, Theatre Art Complex, Old Hostel, New I.C.T Building and New Administrative Block. The experiment was a Completely Randomized Design the screen house of the department of Plant Science and Biotechnology. Two seeds were sown in each bucket and later thinned to one plant two weeks after planting. Watering was done at an interval of three days. The leaf length, leaf width, plant height, stem thickness, number of leaves per plant and length of inflorescence were measured at the blooming stage using a tape graduated in centimeters. Data amassed were subjected to analysis of variance (ANOVA)and means separated using the Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT).Of all the vegetative attributes studied, only the soil obtained from the Theatre Art Complex is significantly different length, number of leaves per plant, plant height and they have higher leaf length, plant height and number of leaves per plant. Most importantly the length of inflorescence of the maizeplant of Theatre Art Complex is significant difference from other source of soil. This study revealed that soil obtained from Theatre Art Complex is superior to other soil source. This superiority may be due to the higher concentration of mineral nutrient require by maize plant which maybe least in others source of soil or may be due to the leaching of the soil. It may be due to the presence of Chromolaena odoratawhich is use as a fallow species and soil fertility improvement plant because Theatre Art Complex soil was surrounded by Chromolaena odorata
